Unlawnful: Build Community Around Uncolonizing and Rewilding Lawns

ABOUT THE UNLAWNFUL CAMPAIGN

Join us as we launch a year-long campaign that will culminate in acts of unlawnfulness. We have imposed a very human idea of lawns that unfortunately has smothered Mother Earth, with more than 60 million acres of grass in the United States alone. We hope you will join us so we and Mother Earth can breathe again.

  • In summer 2022, we are discussing why we should uncolonize and rewild lawns.
  • In the fall and winter we will learn how to transform your lawn into a healthier ecosystem.
  • And in spring and summer 2023, we will unlawn those lawns!

Throughout this campaign, we aim to model social diversity as we restore ecological diversity. If you have already rewilded your lawn or a lawn in your community, let us know! We want to highlight the work you have done or will do.

GET INVOLVED

There are many ways to contribute to the campaign!

  • Read our Unlawnful Toolkit (see above) and organize your own local unlawning!
  • Share photos/videos of your Unlawnful projects on our Facebook and Instagram! Tag #unlawnful
    • When you promote the campaign, we would appreciate if you could please say: Unlawnful is a decentralised campaign that was created by Permaculture Association of the Northeast (PAN). The campaign is made up of individuals, community groups, and businesses who support the movement of Unlawning. I am a participant in the campaign, though not a representative of PAN.
  • Add your project to our Unlawnful Map and connect with other Unlawnful projects in your area!
  • Volunteer to help us with the campaign and let us know how you want to contribute.
  • Display an Unlawnful Poster on your NOT-lawn!
    • Support PAN by purchasing special edition laminated Unlawnful Posters (see below)
    • Or print your own Unlawnful Posters:
      • Download LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION
      • Download PORTRAIT ORIENTATION
      • Download 1/4 PAGE FLIERS FOR DISTRIBUTION

Add yourself to the map! Not sure how? Check out this short video tutorial.

PURCHASE LAMINATED UNLAWNFUL POSTERS

Purchase laminated Unlawnful posters to display on your converted lawn, balcony, patio, or wherever you would like! Posters are printed on 110 lb. blue card stock. To post in the ground, we recommend you find a stick or repurpose a stake and use heavy duty tape – puncturing the lamination with staples will allow water to damage the sign. Tip: you can use a wooden paint stirrer as a stake!

Shipping is included for US orders, and the cost per poster decreases with quantity. Contact info@northeastpermaculture.org with bulk poster inquiries and shipping requests to Canada and beyond.

Thank you for supporting PAN! We operate as a small and mighty team – please trust that your dollars will help us support a mass Unlawning.
